STEMi collaborates with APEN for the 2025 AI, Robotics and Coding Hackathon for Schools.
(Lagos – Nigeria; 20th of May 2025)Â
The Association of Private Educators of Nigeria (APEN) collaborates with STEMi Makers of Africa towards the 2025 Artificial Intelligence (AI), Coding and Robotics Competition under the theme: Smart Cities and Sustainable Agriculture. The competition objective is to unleash the creativity and coding skills of students to design prototypes that are AI driven and compete in real-world urban scenarios, whether autonomously navigating or manually controlled. Sustainability is at the heart of this year’s competition, as students create AI, robotics, and coding projects that address real-world challenges, from climate change to eco-friendly solutions.
STEMi Makers of Africa will serve as co-technical partners in judging and evaluation of projects, providing post-hackathon support to finalists to modify their prototypes for an opportunity to showcase their projects in an international competition. This competition will connect young innovators with investors, prototype engineers and industry pioneers, driving real-world applications of AI and automation while influencing regulatory frameworks and STEM education mechanisms to accelerate Africa’s digital and industrial evolution.
The competition will be in a hybrid format where evaluations of the winners will go through first, second stages and the grand finale of the APEN Talent Show. Categories of the participants fall in the Primary, Secondary, Sixth Form.
The APEN AI, Coding and Robotics Competition 2025 is a leading initiative driving primary and secondary school leadership in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) through AI, robotics, and emerging technologies. As Nigeria accelerates towards a globally competitive, technology-driven economy, this initiative fosters cutting-edge research, skills development, and commercial pathways for AI-powered solutions that address local challenges.
At STEMi Makers of Africa, we believe it’s more than a competition, it serves as a catalyst for community building, creativity amongst young talents and digital transformation, aligning with Nigeria’s economic priorities and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to position African talent as global leaders in AI and robotics.
