Department of Mathematics Education of University of Education, Winneba partners with STEMi Makers of Africa on Math capacity building of Educators in Ghana.
STEMi Makers of Africa, in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics Education, University of Education, Winneba (UEW), is proud to present the Math and Computational Capacity Building Bootcamp for Educators in Winneba, Ghana under the theme: Diversity and Inclusivity in Mathematics Education. This collaboration is a multi-stakeholder capacity-building bootcamp for 70 educators in order to enhance their teaching competence in computing mathematics across classrooms and guarantee that increased participation of adolescent girls will improve, thereby, closing the gap of out-of-school girls and minority groups who disproportionately fall out of the high-achieving group from level 4 – 6.
From enhancing problem-solving skills, critical thinking and weighing ingredients, mathematics is more than just numbers: it’s a universal language that shapes our everyday lives. When we train educators to teach maths better, we are equipping students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.
This is going to be a two-day bootcamp scheduled to run from Thursday the 29th of June to Friday, the 20rth of June 2025 where 70 educators will be empowered with innovative tools, inclusive strategies in mathematics and computational learning using math-adaptive curricular and hands-on sessions on:-
- Inquiry-based learning in mathematics,
- Mathematical creativity and critical thinking,
- Mathematical modeling and gamified learning and
- Setting up STEM clubs and encouraging mathematical innovations.Â

Featured facilitators for the bootcamp are:-
- Dr. Sylvester Ali Frimpong (Head, Department of Mathematics Education, UEW)
- Prof. Peter Akayuure (Project Lead, University of Education, Winneba, Ghana)
- Dr. Gloria Armah
- Ms. Matilda Sarpong Adusei
- Dr. Nana Akosua Owusu-Ansah
- Dorcas Attuabea Addo (Project Lead, STEMi Makers of Africa, Ghana).
This collaboration also lays a unique framework in project sustainability and using a knowledge transfer approach where the trained educators will cascade the bootcamp learning by training their fellow colleagues (an average of 1,500 in total) to design an inclusive, robust Math application of lessons with hands-on activities and exemplary practices towards a rich pool of Mathematicians in Ghana.
Venue:
South Lecture Theatre 7 (SLT 7), University of Education, Winneba.
We warmly invite all mathematics educators and stakeholders to participate in this vital capacity-building initiative aimed at fostering diversity and inclusion in math education across Africa.
