Pan-African STEM Educator Fellowship

The Pan-African STEM Fellowship is a six-months virtual professional development program to support Educators in physical computing, integrate STEM concepts and employability skills into daily instruction.

Launched in 2024, the initiative is set to be the first inaugural Pan-African STEM educator fellowship for educators in Africa. This is an impact investment fellowship to upskill 52 educators from 52 African countries in their teaching practices and introduce them to foundational concepts of computer science, evolving nuances of human capital development skills and hands-on STEM applications for their classrooms.

With the support of partners, the fellowship underscores the role of STEM Education in catalyzing transformation within Africa’s education ecosystem. Educators are further provided support to develop their own integrated STEM, problem-based learning unit aligned with their state/local standards and grounded in their school/ local challenge.

Applications for the Pan-African STEM Educator fellowship are open to in-service secondary-level STEM educators from all 52 countries in Africa, who meet the following criteria:

The Pan-African STEM Educator fellowship is a virtual exchange program that aims to help African educators build the skills and understanding needed to become globally competent and develop technical competitiveness in your students.

This fellowship will help you explore key concepts and principles of physical computing, design thinking and learn to foster 21st century skills with your students.

During this program, participants will:

  • Explore different views, experiences and best practices in a collaborative virtual learning environment.
  • Make local and global connections with other educators interested in Continental Citizenship Education.
  • Experience different training, communication and teaching styles.
  • Earn a certificate of completion indicating the number of hours of engagement, types of activities and topics covered.
  • Applicants must serve as secondary level teachers for 13-18-year-old students.
  • Must be able to participate fully in activities (online modules, discussion forums and live dialogue sessions) conducted entirely in English. 
  • Demonstrated interest in STEM Education, global citizenship education, education for sustainable development and interacting with different cultures.
  • Motivated in-service educators from all backgrounds who reflect the diversity of populations around the Africa, particularly underrepresented populations, are strongly encouraged to apply!
  • A computer, smartphone or other digital devices to access the virtual program content
  • An integrated webcam and microphone for participation in online dialogue sessions
  • Stable internet or wifi connection.

In addition to filling out your online application (see below) you will also be asked to submit the following forms:

  • Educator Verification Form 
  • Global STEM Photo Release Form

These forms can also be accessed in the application form but we encourage you to have them ready when starting your application.

Your Pan-African STEM Educator application must be submitted no later than September 17, 2024. Late forms will not be accepted, and applications with missing forms will be considered incomplete.

Both asked forms can be verified with a handwritten signature or digital signature. Both are acceptable.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Scholarship winners for the 2024 Global STEM Educators will be announced on September 27, 2024 via email.Â
