Ugo Okafor is an Architect and Design publisher. He has worked on a variety of building projects in the Far East, Europe and Africa. He is currently the design director for Arcepa which is involved in a couple of design jobs in Nigeria. Previously he was
involved in project managing the finishes package for the £70 million St Pancras International First Capital Connect train station in London. He currently a prototype engineer at the GE Lagos Garage, in Victoria Island, Lagos where he has assisted lots of participants develop and build their prototypes. He has also been part of the tem that helped in the planning of Premier Hub Akure and other Digital fabrication facilities in the country. He was part of the team that worked on the product design ideation process for numerous participants at the GE Garage Lagos. He is the founder and publisher of African Architecture and Design a site that focuses on trends of sustainability in design and construction within developing economies. He also co-edits NIDF a blog that presents the need for viable strategic infrastructure in developing countries.
Mr. Okafor recently co-designed and completed a proposal for a 400 room 5 star hotel in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The client has further commissioned a local Parkinson’s Disease Rehabilitation centre. Other projects include the Pediatric and maternity hospital currently under construction in Enugu, a Maxillofacial Hospital in Bayelsa state, Nigeria, and a 100 room Hotel in Abuja.
In Hong Kong, Ugo was part of a team that helped deliver the construction of the new 5 Star Peninsular Hotel Tower on time and on budget. His responsibilities included production of coordinated MEP drawings and planning schedules. He played a similar role on the MTR Hong Kong Station, Peninsular Hotel Bangkok projects. Mr Okafor was the lead at a Facility Management team in the Asia Pacific branch of Credit Suisse. Their role included publishing and managing the company’s staff occupancy data on the intranet in the late nineties. Mr Okafor also brings with him a pool of experience brought about by years of planning and designing medical facilities in Europe built under PFI and PPP finance schemes.
These include the prestigious Manchester Hospital(Anshen+Allen) and the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast(Capital Symonds) and over 100 medical imaging an intervention centres in the U.K and Middle East while working with(Philips Medical Systems).
